“Hipster Peter Griffin” is an image macro of Peter Griffin from Family Guy dressed as a stereotypical millennial hipster. Origin
The image is a still from the Family Guy episode "HTTPete", which aired on May 6th, 2018. In it, Peter tries to live like a millennial so he can bring younger customers into the brewery, and an expert coaches him on the generation's habits. The hoverboard scene is part of that makeover. A clip of it was uploaded to YouTube by AniDom on May 16th, 2018 and has since passed 5 million views.
The earliest known meme with the image is a November 15th, 2023 post on X by @erallover, which paired it with the You Smoke Too Tough, Your Swag Too Different joke. Later that month @3ag posted it with "Me in 5 years if I still exist," and Instagram accounts reposted it. It kept going through 2025. A June tweet by @street_Hater about asking a lemonade stand if it takes Apple Pay got over 198,000 likes, and an October tweet by @eviltweets725 about a Staples bathroom passed 32,000 likes in a day.
Meaning
People use Hipster Peter to poke fun at millennial and Gen Z behavior: being glued to your phone, paying for everything with an app, logging every movie on Letterboxd, or having niche taste you're a little too proud of. The caption describes the habit and Peter, smug on his hoverboard, stands in for whoever's doing it.
