“Hulk Angry” (also called the Angry Hulk meme) is a reaction image of Marvel's Incredible Hulk flexing and gritting his teeth, veins bulging all over his green body. The version that gets passed around is blurry and low-res, which is part of the charm. People post it under a one-line caption describing whatever has them furious, mostly on X, Reddit, Instagram and TikTok, and it's become a regular in the Marvel Rivals community.
Origin
The picture is a piece of fan art called Always Angry, posted to DeviantArt by the artist Grimbro on July 28th, 2012. It shows the Hulk with red eyes mid-flex and sat there quietly for years, picking up a few thousand views.
A shrunken, crunchy copy started working as a meme around 2023. One of the earliest known uses is an April 17th, 2023 Instagram post by grandmas.booty.cheeks, captioned with a screaming joke about something being laced. It kept spreading as a reaction image after that, and by March 2026 posts using it about Uma Musume and Marvel Rivals ranked play were each pulling in thousands of likes on X.
Meaning
The Hulk stands in for the poster, or for someone they're talking about, at the exact moment they lose it. The caption sets up the trigger: a game studio dropping yet another skin for a character you don't play, a friend telling you what to do, an enemy team stacked the one day you queue alone.
It's almost always played for laughs. The rage is wildly out of proportion to the complaint, and the smeary, overcompressed image makes the whole thing look even more unhinged.
