On June 1st, 2026, X user @PlisskenPatriot posted the Nikki still with the caption "how your gf looks at you when you ask her to block the guy who 'r--ed' her in 2019."
The joke reads the girlfriend's frown as her not wanting to cut off the ex, implying she doesn't really buy the accusation. The post blew up, pulling in over 114,000 likes, 7,600 reposts and 37.6 million views in three days, and it drew heavy backlash for making light of assault.
Users piled into the quote retweets, with @angelpurrp calling it an insane tweet (over 210,000 likes) and @emkenobi posting that men who find r--e funny should die (over 40,000 likes).
The film itself is about a girl who becomes dangerously fixated on a man after he wishes on an ancient toy for her to fall for him.
Meaning
Once the format caught on, people swapped in their own X's, usually something the girlfriend ought to do but supposedly won't: drink water, stop posting revealing pics, accept a straightforward fix to a problem.
Nikki's pout stands in for the exaggerated, put-upon reaction. A lot of the versions lean into gender-war bait and read as knowingly provocative, which is much of the appeal, though plenty are just goofy.
The joke flips easily too, with boyfriend-directed versions using the same frame.
