“Odysseus Screaming” is a reaction image and image macro of actor Matt Damon as Odysseus, mouth wide open and face twisted in agony as he screams. It usually runs with a caption placed above the shot describing some awful or frustrating situation, with Damon's expression doing the reacting.
Origin
The shot comes from The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's 2026 adaptation of Homer's epic, which opened in theaters on July 17, 2026.
It's from the sirens sequence: Odysseus has himself lashed to his ship's mast so he can hear the sirens' song without steering the crew to their deaths, and Damon screams in anguish as their call works on him. Fans grabbed screenshots of that face within days of the premiere, and by mid-July 2026 it was already circulating as a meme.
Meaning
People reach for it whenever something goes wrong, big or small. The caption sets up the misery (a computer that still won't restart, stepping in a wet spot while wearing socks, plans falling through) and Damon's screaming face carries the reaction.
