Big Bird In Meeting

About
“Big Bird In Meeting” is a one-panel image macro of the Sesame Street character Big Bird sitting at the head of a conference table, towering over a room of office workers typing on their laptops. A caption above the photo casts Big Bird as the person who obviously doesn't belong but is trying to look professional anyway. It turns up on Reddit, X/Twitter and Imgflip, usually as a joke about work, school or fitting in.
Origin
The photo is a still from Big Bird Interns At Funny or Die, a sketch Funny or Die posted to YouTube on November 11, 2015. In the video, Big Bird spends a day at the comedy site's office and sits in on its creative meetings, and several of those shots later became meme templates.
The meeting shot first got attention in April 2019 through a Bertstrips-style post on Reddit by u/The39thClause, which put a fake story under the picture. Captioned versions took off in 2020. One October 2020 Reddit post about having imposter syndrome in meetings picked up over 1,300 upvotes.
Meaning
The meme is about sticking out. Big Bird is huge, yellow and feathered in a room full of people in plain shirts, and nobody is saying anything about it. Captions use him for whoever feels out of place: the new hire, the one person who doesn't understand the topic, the imposter hoping nobody notices.
It's mostly self-deprecating. People cast themselves as Big Bird, though it also works for a game character who looks ridiculous in a serious cutscene or a coworker who plainly doesn't fit in.
