“Squid Game Celebration”, also called Squid Game Cheering, is a reaction image built from a still of Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) screaming with joy in a crowd of green-tracksuited players from season 2 of Squid Game. A caption above the frame usually starts with "How happy mfs be when..." or "How hype mfs get when..." and names some small thing that sets a group off. It shows up on TikTok, Twitter / X and Reddit.
Origin
The shot comes from "One More Game", episode 5 of Squid Game season 2, which Netflix released on December 26th, 2024. During the Six-Legged Pentathlon a team finishes the game, and Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, gets grabbed by Player 001 while everyone around them cheers. The official SquidGame account on Tenor posted a GIF of the scene on January 1st, 2025.
The first TikToks using the clip, posted on December 27th and 28th, 2024, joked that Player 001 had forgotten he was secretly the Front Man. On January 3rd, 2025, TikToker @baldkurapikq used it as a plain celebration reaction, and that's the version that stuck. @hofdriva's photo slideshow in February, about kids at recess cheering when a girl got hit in the face with a wet soccer ball, pulled in over 500,000 likes and made the captioned still format common.
Meaning
The image stands for a group getting way too excited, all at once, over something. The joke is usually in how petty or unexpected the trigger is: friends finding out they all failed the same test, classmates hearing someone stutter while reading aloud, or someone spotting their ex doing horribly in life.
It's often self-aware. The "I don't even like parties" crowd losing it the second they walk in is a typical example. The captions poke fun at people's hypocrisy and at how contagious hype gets in a group.
