Origin
The still comes from Unfriended: Dark Web, a 2018 screenlife horror movie told entirely through a laptop screen. Actor Colin Woodell plays Matias, who finds a laptop full of hidden files and ends up dragging his friends on a group video call into trouble with a group of dark web killers. The frame shows his character's face on the webcam feed.
The earliest known meme use is a Threads post from May 12, 2024, by @yznjuns, captioned as a POV about reading a K-pop idol's birthday message. It picked up in 2025. A Facebook post by Noel Rivers in February got over 9,000 likes, and fandom posts on Tumblr and Instagram followed. In August 2025, X user @ivanphilia paired it with a short "did you eat" / "yes" / "what did you eat" exchange and got more than 300,000 likes.
Meaning
The image stands for quiet, frozen horror. It's the face you make when you've read something and can't unread it, or when a situation has gone somewhere you can't take back.
