White Rabbit Pointing at a Clock

About
“White Rabbit Pointing at a Clock”, also called the Rabbit Clock meme, is an image macro built on a painting of the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland tapping his pocket watch while staring straight at the viewer. People caption it with a line about time, usually someone being smug over a tiny technicality or a situation where time is running out. It took off on TikTok in 2025 and blew up on Twitter / X that October.
Origin
The artwork was drawn by artist Luz Tapia (LuzTapia on DeviantArt) and is dated March 16th, 2012, which you can see in the signature on the image itself. The DeviantArt upload was later deleted, and the oldest known repost is a Pinterest pin from September 2016. In October 2025, Tapia shared a screen recording of the original Photoshop file on X to confirm the date.
The meme version started on TikTok in May 2025. On May 13th, @boxed3k posted it with the caption "How teachers be posted up when you start packing 1 minute before class ends," and it picked up over 478,000 likes. Similar "how mfs feel" posts followed within days. The All Roads Lead to Rome trend brought it back in September, and in early October it spread fast on X, where a GIF of the rabbit from Tim Burton's 2010 film went around alongside it. Tapia reacted on October 8th, writing that seeing her 2012 drawing become a meme was "still crazy" to her.
Meaning
The rabbit's knowing look and the finger on the watch read as smug, pedantic timekeeping. The classic caption casts him as the person who says it's 12:00 when it's 11:59, or who answers "what time is it" with "time to get a watch."
On X the tone shifted toward something more wistful. The rabbit started standing in for time running out: aging out of hobbies, waiting on a text that isn't coming, or a relative who is slowly getting older. Some posts use the image with no clear joke at all, which is part of the fun.
